MICROPROJECTS

Project for the development of a traditional Tibetan medical clinic, a Kokonor in Qinghai Province.

From the start of its operations A.S.I.A. has specialised in small development interventions to assist the Tibetan population in rural China, with budgets ranging from US$10,000-50,000. These interventions, financed by foreign embassies in Beijing and private foundations and by A.S.I.A.’s own funds derived from donations and fund-raising, have contributed to the improvement of the education, health, cultural and social conditions of the Tibetan minority at village level.  A.S.I.A. continues to utilise this means to promote development in the areas where it operates, despite the fact that the realisation of these ventures represents a considerable commitment for the Association as the costs for expatriate staff and local staff are always paid by the NGO. In fact the realisation of microprojects remains the means favoured by A.S.I.A. in its work because it constitutes the most immediate response to the needs of those populations which, as they live in the most remote rural areas, often remain marginalised from the larger circuits of international cooperation.
