FUND RAISING | |||
|
The Fund Raising sector was started at the same time as ASIA itself, due to the conviction concerning the importance of organising undertakings and public events to publicise the Association and its work and to awaken interest in the public at large in world issues of great importance and complexity. |
||||
|
Over the years several Special Events have been organised, as they comprise an important instrument for Fund Raising; they have enabled the enhancement of the public image of the NGO, the engagement of public opinion and of voluntary workers and the collection of funds. The Special Events have always represented an opportunity for meetings between members, voluntary workers and supporters, and to enable people to gain greater knowledge of the task, history and future projects of the NGO. They offer a great opportunity to establish personal contacts and to talk about the Association, its history and its future objectives with a wider public of donors and/or potential donors. They are planned to coincide with particular moments, such as commemorations and anniversaries or emergency situations. These special events occupy both the internal staff more directly attending to information, sensitisation and communication activities, and voluntary workers involved in the operations engaged in the event, with the positive outcome of strengthening the links of the latter with the NGO. |
||||
The various undertakings have as their objectives:
- collecting funds
- motivating board members and large donors
- recruiting voluntary workers and future board members
- expanding the network of the Organisation
- publicising the NGO
- sustaining consent and support
The sectors through which ASIA has developed and continues to advance its Fund Raising activities are:
- Sensitisation Campaigns
- Exhibitions and Shows
- Auctions
- Film, Photographic and Art Exhibitions
- Markets
- Sale of Calendars, Greetings Cards and Diaries
Sensitisation Campaigns:
The running of Sensitisation campaigns is one of the most important instruments for sensitising the greatest possible number of people. In 1994 ASIA launched a sensitisation campaign called A Message of Hope, to remind people about the invasion that the Tibetan people are suffering with the consequent and painful disappearance of its culture. On that occasion a letter and an invitation to reflection were printed and sent to 5000 people throughout the world and sweatshirts and badges entitled “A Message of Hope” were also produced. In 2001 the Surgery for Life Campaign was launched. This undertaking offers the possibility to Tibetan children afflicted with severe health conditions that are untreatable in the local hospitals to receive surgery in Italy in specialist hospitals. Thanks to the generosity of some patrons the sum of 8000 Euros was collected that covered the travel, board and lodging and hospital expenses for Pema Lhamo, a young girl afflicted with polio and dysplasia of the hips. During a mission in Tibet ASIA contacted the girl’s father and helped him obtain the passport and all the documents necessary for travel abroad. The girl was cured at the Child Jesus Hospital in Rome.
At present ASIA is collecting funds for a child afflicted by congenital heart disease. Please participate with a voluntary contribution to ASIA.

Exhibitions and Shows:
Benefit and solidarity evenings are regularly held, with music, dance and singing shows. For example, in 1989 an exhibition of traditional Tibetan dance was organised by the Dance Group of the Opera in Zurich at the Ariosto Theatre in Reggio Emilia (Italy). In October 1998 a Concert for Tibet by Neapolitan musicians was held at the Bellini Theatre in Naples, and several other feasts and traditional dinner parties have been held in co-operation with local organisations.
Auctions:
Over the years several public auctions have been held of works of art donated by artists to raise funds, in particular for the construction of a village for Tibetan refugees in India and for the safeguard of the culture and traditions of the Tibetan people.
Exhibition of Films and Photography and Art Exhibitions:
ASIA regularly organises exhibitions of films and documentaries, most of which never before seen in Italy. The aim of the photography and art exhibitions is to raise funds for the constructions of art and classical crafts schools in East Tibet.
Markets:
For several years ASIA has imported into Italy products coming directly from the geographical areas where we operate. These are ancient objects and traditional jewellery, incense prepared according to ancient procedures and using natural ingredients. Also, we take part in fairs and markets for the sale of Tibetan cultural objects and publications, such as in the national market fair “Christmas in the World” at the Rome Fair, and the market fair “Living in the Country”, held at the Palaparioli in Rome. Occasions such as these offer ASIA the opportunity to hold a stand to present its activities and to raise funds.
Sale of Calendars, Greetings Cards and Diaries:
For years ASIA has published calendars and greetings cards, using photographs and documentary materials from its own photo archives comprising material gathered in the geographical areas where we operate and collected during the international co-operation projects. Every year we prepare a Diary in conjunction with “Gabbianella”, the Italian Organisation for the Co-ordination of Distant Sponsorships. The funds raised are utilised in particular for the construction of classrooms and dormitories for the School at Shala, in Qinghai.
In recent years the Fund Raising sector of ASIA has been enlarged to allow a more visible profile of the NGO and its ventures, with the aim to reach the greatest number possible of people in order to sensitise them on the issues of development, relations with other cultures and the importance of the protection of the latter.
The presence of the NGO has been enhanced in the local, national and international domains through the following undertakings:
- The publication of ASIA NEWS in the Italian and English languages
- Participation in radio shows and publication of articles in specialist and general Reviews
- The publication of information Brochures and Dossiers about the NGO
- Publications in the language of the countries where we operate
Over the years ASIA has published CALENDARS AND GREETINGS CARDS using photographs and documentary materials from its own photo archives comprising material gathered in the geographical areas where we operate and collected during the international co-operation projects.
